Maker to Market: is a one-day experience that will transform your economics and maker teaching practices. Maker to Market blends the growing interest in maker-based learning with the economics behind taking a product to market. You will explore maker techniques to utilize recycled materials followed by creating a product based on your new found knowledge. You will pitch your product idea and see how it performs in the market of workshop peers. Come discover classroom activities that address science and engineering practices as well as economic and entrepreneurial concepts.

This workshop is designed for K-6 educators.

"STEAM and Making have obvious connections in math, science, and technology classrooms, but I don't teach any of those!" We are all teachers of reading (or should be). We read stories aloud to our students and engage with text everyday. This workshop takes an innovative approach to literacy instruction by connecting STEAM and Making practices to relevant children's literature, poetry, and other texts. Lesson plans and suggested book lists are shared in this session.
This workshop is created and facilitated by author Jacie Maslyk, EdD, based on her book Remaking Literacy. Jacie has spent 28 years in education as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and literacy consultant with an emphasis on integrating hands-on learning. She is excited to share her work with educators in Northwest Arkansas through a 3.5 hour hands-on workshop.

The NWA STEAM Institute is a two-day immersive professional development event for educators interested in integrating STEAM in their educational settings. The Amazeum team and NWAESC’s Science Specialist will facilitate rigorous learning experiences connected to the AR science standards with a focus on sensemaking, phenomena, and the engineering design process.

Join Amazeum team members and the Co-op’s Science Specialist for a day of hands-on activities, collaborative discussions, and reflective exercises designed to deepen one’s understanding of the K-4 science standards, teach using phenomena, and help students make sense of their learning. Participants will leave equipped with the knowledge and skills to inspire their students to be curious about the world around them as well as resources they can use in their classrooms. This session will be fun, engaging and an opportunity to build confidence about teaching science in the K-4 classroom or STEAM lab.
